We're Positively Beautiful
Jailene Escalera
This month, Images collaborated with the Positivity Project and Pathways to compose a collective poem about beauty and what it means to us. We hope Rockland enjoys and takes a moment to reflect on the beauty of diversity.
To us, beauty is a lone smile in a crowd
Beauty is a warm heart and a dead phone
To us, beauty is bandaids and healed scars
Beauty is sharing stories
To us, beauty is seeing a sunset and
Knowing others see it too
To us, beauty is vast greenery
Beauty is blooming
To us, beauty is overcoming tragedy
Beauty is stargazing
To us, beauty is the sound of rain
The spectrum of color
To us, beauty is the dark and dreary day
That is still filled with promise
To us, beauty is a face with no makeup
Our heads on pillows
To us, beauty is the frantic scratching
Of pen on paper
To us, beauty is embracing individuality
Singing at the top of our lungs
To us, beauty is the herbs in our mother’s gardens
The ink on our brother’s arms
To us, beauty is humming ballads
And calloused hands
To us, beauty is bright eyes and ice-cream
Marshmallows and campfires
To us, beauty is an action not an idea
Beauty is natural
To us, beauty is being ourselves
Never losing our morals
To us, beauty is courage
Crushing society's standards
To us, beauty is the perfectly imperfect
Beauty is knowing we know nothing
To us, beauty is the pride we have for those who serve
Our sisters and brothers
To us, beauty is New England
Beauty in Gardens and Stadiums
To us, beauty is horses
Galloping like music
To us, beauty is family
Beauty is friends.
To us, beauty is awake.
